Easter is such a special time to reflect on the life, love, and sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ—and this year, our Young Women’s Easter lesson turned out to be one of the most memorable yet.

From the creative scripture egg hunt to the heartfelt Holy Week reflections, this lesson helped our girls truly ponder what Easter means—and how they can carry the Savior’s love into their daily lives.

I’m excited to share the full lesson details and ideas with you, so you can recreate this special experience with your own group!

Easter Lesson Setup

I walked into the room and was immediately touched by the beautiful setup my two counselors had created.

They had blankets laid out on the ground and and a tomb set up with kids play couch. It looked so amazing!

We all sat together on the floor, which made the experience feel even more personal and connected.

Lesson Material

Pink Easter egg with piece of yarn and paper with scripture reference on it.

The YW leaders had all of us find an egg that was hidden in the room and each egg had an item and a scripture in it. We all took turns reading our scripture and showing the items.

Here were the items in the eggs:

  1. coins
  2. sacrament cups
  3. prayer hands
  4. rope
  5. soap
  6. robe/thorn
  7. cross/nails
  8. rocks
  9. cloth
  10. tomb/rock
  11. spices
  12. empty

During the week leading up to Easter, we posted a reminder from the lesson for the girls to ponder. Here are the thought prompts:

  • Palm Sunday: How do we shout hosanna in our own lives? How do you rely on the lord? Do you recognize Jesus in your life?
  • Monday: Cleansing the temple and healing. In the last week of His earthly life, the Lord took the time to clear the temple of money changers, restoring it to its most sacred and holy purpose as a “house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13). After the temple was cleansed, Jesus took time to heal people. What is one step you can take today toward having more holy and sacred space in your life?
  • Tuesday: Jesus teaches using parables. Jesus Christ spent His final days in Jerusalem teaching, serving, and showing love for others. He also taught how we can best express our love for Him. (Matthew 25:35–40) What can you do today to serve someone around you?
  • Wednesday: The greatest commandments. During His life on earth, Jesus Christ taught the importance of loving God and loving others (Matthew 22:37–39). In this part of our lesson we talked about how this was the day Judas Iscariot plotted to betray Jesus for money. In contrast, this is the same day Mary of Bethany used expensive oils to clean Jesus’ feet, representing a deep love and reverence toward Jesus. How does your love of God help you to love and serve other people?
  • Thursday: Jesus gathered with His Apostles to honor the Passover- we now call the Last Supper. He told His friends how much He loved them. His words hinted at the painful events that would come in the next hours, when He would suffer for the sins of the world in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross at Calvary. But Christ also gave His Apostles reassurance that though much darkness lay ahead, it would soon be eclipsed by a beautiful gift of love (John 15:13–14). It’s your last day on Earth. What would you want others to know about your beliefs?
  • Good Friday: In the early morning hours Jesus is betrayed. He is sentenced to death by crucifixion. He was whipped, mocked, and made to carry his own cross. He was nailed to the cross. But instead of condemning the people, Jesus Christ begs His Father to “forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). Even now, in His darkest moment, Jesus speaks of love and redemption. With His dying breath, Jesus addresses His Father. “It is finished” (John 19:30). Then, Jesus Christ dies. I invite you to seek an end to a personal conflict that has weighed you down. Could there be a more fitting act of gratitude to Jesus Christ for His Atonement?
  • Saturday: This was a hard day for Jesus’ friends and disciples and friends as they mourned the loss of their great friend and Master. But Christ will NEVER leave us comfortless. When life is hard, the comfort and peace we can find through the Holy Ghost can help us feel God’s love, no matter how difficult our circumstances may be. Because of this gift, we can feel hope instead of fear for ourselves and others. Even when there is no peace on earth, there is always peace in Christ. What small thing can you do to invite more of Jesus Christ’s peace into your life?
  • Easter Sunday: Today is resurrection Sunday. Jesus Christ conquered death. The silence of the tomb was broken and the world was changed forever. Jesus’ victory over death gave hope to all who believe in Him (Matthew 28:6). What unexpected things did you learn as you studied about Jesus Christ this Easter Holy Week?

Easter Lesson Handouts

At the end of the lesson, all of the girls received tulips with a beautiful keepsake Easter tag and we had homemade sourdough bread!

The tags were made by this Etsy shop.
