Inside: My favorite bloggers have shared the best website hosting options out there. I’m detailing the pros and cons and the WordPress hosting price of each. Know what you’re paying for and what to expect!
Whether you’re a new blogger or an experienced blogger looking to make a change, selecting the right website host is super important. I’ve taken suggestions from a community of my favorite bloggers and created this list of the best website hosting options they use.
Note: There is a TON of information for each website host on the various company sites. I’ve taken highlights from each site to provide a fairly in depth preview of each platform’s services. For full details, make sure to visit each site.
How Much Does it Cost to Host a WordPress Website?
Also, some of these web hosts provide services for multiple hosting types including, shared and/or managed general hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, etc. The pricing and plans I’ve listed may vary, depending on the actual type of hosting you choose to use from each provider. The pricing I’ve listed may be subject to change!

Why Is Website Hosting Important?
If you’re new to having a self-hosted blog, you may be overwhelmed and confused by what hosting even is and why it’s important.
When you create a blog somewhere other than a free service (like Blogger), you’ll need a web hosting provider that will house all of your blog files and make them available on the internet. It’s just how it works when you move from free to self-hosted.
Choosing the right web host is important because you want your website to be available to readers who are interested in your posts; you don’t want outages on your site or slow loading times. You also want to look for a host who has a quick customer service response time and is available when you need them.
I don’t want you to think that I wrote this post just to get some affiliate sales. That was my original intention for this post, but after reading through a few comments from other bloggers, I realized that I needed to share ALL of the options with you, not just the one that would make me a few bucks.
I’m going to list several different options for website hosting below that were recommended by my blogging community. I’m providing these to you based on their word because I’ve only used one hosting service in my blogging career.
Please note that, with everything, someone could have a great experience with one host and another person could have a terrible experience. Compare the plans, chat with customer support, and then go with your gut! If you’re not happy with the hosting, you can always change down the road.
The two companies that I hear bad reviews from over and over again are Bluehost and GoDaddy. If I were you I’d stay away from those!
One thing that I do recommend is to purchase the longest plan possible when you sign up for a website host. This is because you’ll lock in that amazing price for up to 3 years. If you only purchase the hosting service for 1 year, then after that year, most hosts will remove the promotional pricing and you’ll be stuck paying a higher monthly fee.
The worst thing that could happen is that you really don’t like your host and you want to switch. In that case, it’s worth a try to contact customer service to see about a refund for canceling your contract early. But that shouldn’t happen with any of the following hosts 😉

SiteGround
I, personally, use SiteGround for my website hosting. As their website states, they are “trusted by the owners of 2,000,000 domains”. They are also, officially, recommended by WordPress.org. Their interface is easy to navigate and they offer 24/7 contact support. They also provide free and “smooth” website transfer if you’re looking to migrate over from another platform.
SiteGround is ideal for designers and agencies that build sites to transfer to clients. And, if you’re looking to create a website for yourself and don’t know where to start, SiteGround provides free WordPress installation and Weebly sitebuilder.
Another great perk of working through SiteGround is their affiliate program. They provide performance-based commissions with weekly payments and no minimum payout. The more sales you make, the more per sale you receive. Pay starts at $50 per sale.
Here is the list of accolades SiteGround boasts:
- Variety of Platforms
- Multiple Server Locations (They have data centers across 3 continents for better website performance)
- Optimized Performance (SiteGround servers are geared to the most popular apps)
- Unmatched Speed (They claim customized software that creates unique speed boosting solutions)
- Advanced Security
- Expert Support (Fast, 24/7 support, beyond just hosting. I’ve written into chat SEVERAL times with complicated issues and they are always so quick to help.)
Pricing is very reasonable and they frequently offer discounts and deals, depending on the time of year. They usually have a great sale around Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
Here are their current hosting options:
StartUp Plan: Special Price of $3.95/mo. (Regular $11.95/mo.)

- ~100,000 Visits Monthly
WP OPT
In their own words, WP OPT provides “performance optimized WordPress hosting for any traffic level”. They also supply domains if you still need to purchase a domain name. WP OPT is a smaller company, which they view as an advantage. This company was born from a WordPress design and consulting business.
Their “Main Man”, Charles, offered consulting services to clients and saw a need for customized website hosting. The mission of WP OPT is to step away from the “one plan fits all” hosting that many of his original clients were faced with.
If you want to make the switch to WP OPT, site migration is free and taken care of by one person so there is full control of the process and complete accountability.
These are the accolades WP OPT cites for their services:
- High Performance (“All hosting runs off full SSD arrays in RAID 10 with lightspeed Web Server”)
- One-Click Staging Environment (You can test any changes to your site before going live)
- Easy Host Configuration (cPanel comes standard)

BigScoots website hosting services came to be about 9 years ago. They are willing to directly take on their competition with their, cited, additional and improved services.
On their website, they specifically list several ways they outperform their competition. So, if you want a head to head comparison with Siteground and other platforms, their site provides that.
