The Best Thanksgiving Activities for Kids
Here are some additional fun Thanksgiving and fall-themed activities and games that kids will love! These ideas are simple to set up and can keep the little ones entertained while also giving them a taste of the season.
- Pumpkin Bowling – Grab a small pumpkin and set up some empty plastic bottles as pins. Kids can roll the pumpkin to try to knock down as many “pins” as possible. It’s a great indoor or outdoor game for some fun competition!
- Turkey Tag – Attach “feathers” (colored strips of paper) to each child’s back with clothespins. Kids then try to grab each other’s feathers without losing their own. The last child with feathers left wins!
- Leaf Scavenger Hunt – Take the kids outside to collect different types of leaves, acorns, pinecones, and other fall nature items. Create a list of things they need to find, and the first to collect them all wins a small prize.
- Pin the Hat on the Scarecrow – Similar to “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” create a large scarecrow and make a hat cutout for each child. Blindfold them, spin them around, and see who can place the hat closest to the scarecrow’s head!
- Pumpkin Tic-Tac-Toe – Use small pumpkins and gourds or painted rocks to play tic-tac-toe. You can create the board on a tablecloth with tape, chalk, or even draw it in the dirt outside for some seasonal fun.
- Stuff the Scarecrow Relay Race – Divide kids into two teams. Have a pile of clothes and straw (or paper) for each team. They race to stuff the scarecrow’s clothes with straw until fully “built” — first team to finish wins!
- Turkey Craft Station – Set up a small craft table where kids can make turkeys (see lots of turkey ideas below!). Offer a variety of craft materials like googly eyes, construction paper, feathers, and markers.
- Fall Obstacle Course – Set up an obstacle course with hay bales, pumpkins, and leaves for kids to jump over, crawl under, and weave around. Make it festive by adding in pumpkin sacks for hopping, or a wheelbarrow to push.
- Hot Pumpkin Game – Like “Hot Potato,” but use a small pumpkin. Have the kids sit in a circle and pass the pumpkin around to some music. When the music stops, the person holding the pumpkin is out. Continue until there’s a winner.
