Pool Safety Tips For Your Next Family Vacation
We made it to sunny California for a family vacation and our kids are having a blast! I don’t know about you, but growing up the hotel pool was always the best part of our vacation no matter where we went! My kids are still pretty small, and even though Hudson took one summer of swimming lessons, Ella hasn’t yet. She wants to have fun in the water too, but I also know I have to be careful with her when she’s around the water. Here are a few pool safety tips to help your toddlers enjoy the water safely this summer.
Never Let Them Out Of Your Sight
I can’t stress this enough, but pool time is not the time to be on Instagram! You need to be completely and 100% in the moment when your child is in the water. When you’re on vacation it can be tempting to grab your phone to take a few pictures, but make sure that another adult is close to your child so they can assist if anything goes wrong.
Locate Pool Flotation Devices
When you’re at a hotel pool, there usually isn’t a life guard on duty, but most pools have a flotation ring nearby in case of an emergency. Make sure you know where that flotation device is and make sure all of your family members know as well.
Don’t Encourage Horseplay
It can be tempting for young children to want to splash and play rough in the water, but as an adult you shouldn’t encourage it. Until children know how to swim, they shouldn’t be around other young children in the water to limit the opportunities for them to get splashed on or dunked.
Utilize Safe Baby Floats
Its so important that my children know how to swim, but until I can get them in proper lessons, a baby float is a great option to allow younger children to opportunity to experience and play in the water.
We brought the SwimWays Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy at Target on our trip and I loved having it! I have to admit, Ella was a little apprehensive at first, but once I pointed out the fishes on the SwimWays Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy at Target, she loved kicking her legs like a fish in the water!
I also love they fact that the Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy is the #1 selling baby float in the U.S. It’s comfortable for babies and has an adjustable and removable canopy with 50+ UPF sun protection. Plus, the mesh play space is great when your child wants to join in on the fun with a little splashing!
It so easy to grab the SwimWays Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy at Target for a vacation because it folds completely flat and comes in it’s own carrying case! Talk about convenient!
SwimWays is an industry leader in helping children learn to swim and promoting water safety (like these pool safety tips!), so I trust them to make quality products that keep my kiddos safe in the pool.
I also love how SwimWays started National Learn to Swim Day in 2012 to educate parents and children about water safety and the importance and benefits of learning to swim. National Learn to Swim Day is coming up on May 19 this year, so grab your SwimWays Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy at Target so you and your kiddos can join in on the fun!
