Beauty Tips For Skin
How to Get Rid of Pimples When Nothing Else Works!
If you’ve been battling with your skin, you know how expensive it is to try to find products that work. I found pretty much every method that DOESN’T work for how to get rid of acne. Here’s a list of all the things I tried over the years that just left me frustrated:
- Almost every drugstore cleanser you can buy
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Salicylic acid
- Natural tablets
- Aztec clay mask
- Rubbing alcohol (yes I actually put that on my skin *cringe*)
- Other antibiotics and creams
- Light therapy
As you can see, that’s a really long list that added up to be really costly. It was not only wasted money but SO much wasted time!
No matter what I did, my “bad skin” went from bad to awful. It finally got to the point that my dermatologist told me I had the dreaded, “Accutane Acne”!
Thankfully, one of my blog readers introduced me to Rodan + Fields when I was considering starting Accutane. I had heard about their Unblemish acne-fighting regimen but was super hesitant to try it due to the cost.
But, in my head, I was telling myself, “I’ve tried everything for my acne and nothing works.” I was out of options. And, if you combine the cost of all the other products I’d tried in the past, Rodan + Fields really wasn’t that expensive in comparison, if it actually worked.
And, it did! I went out on a limb and purchased the product. Unblemish worked so well to gently clear my breakouts. I could not be happier that I made this investment for the health of my skin.
If you’ve never heard of Rodan + Fields or have wanted to know more, you can see my full transformation here as well as detailed product information and an introduction to Rodan + Fields as a company. This product has helped clear my skin from acne, twice now! I would not recommend this if it wasn’t such a game changer for me.
I currently use the Spotless line (it’s cheaper than Unblemish) and I’m still seeing the same great results. Although I’m not an active consultant I do keep up my membership so I can get the discount on the products.
I’m so glad I’m no longer wrestling with how to get rid of pimples. I know how big a burden it is to deal with problematic skin on a daily basis, especially when you’re a new mom. After using the Rodan + Fields products I have felt so free and it’s made such a difference for my confidence!
Vacation Ready Skin
If you’re looking to be a few shades darker for summer, don’t risk your health or waste your time, sitting in the sun! (This is also a “how to get rid of pimples no, no” if you’re working on your skin!). Use self-tanner instead! If you’re hesitant to try a self-tanner or are unsure you’ll get good results, I’ve found some great products that will not let you down!
I’ve broken it down in this post to get your skin vacation ready in only minutes! No streaking, no mess, and you’ll get a quick, natural-looking tan!
Winter Skin + My Favorite Deodorant
Not only did I use to struggle with how to get rid of pimples, but I’ve also battled with dry skin. Living in Utah definitely doesn’t help with that. I started to notice skin irritation during the winter, especially under my arms. If you’ve ever had this problem and don’t know a good product to find relief, I’ve found a great solution with Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. Read my full review here, plus bonus winter skincare tips!
Makeup Beauty Tips
I’m all for saving time and money, and that goes for makeup, too! You don’t always have to go to an expensive store to find quality products that work, feel good on your skin and look great. One of my best finds is My Favorite Drugstore Foundation for Oily/Acne Prone Skin. Follow this link for my in-depth drugstore vs high end foundation challenge. You’ll be surprised by the results.
- If you’ve ever found the perfect foundation that feels great on your skin but doesn’t match your skin tone, there is actually a super easy solution for that! I ran into this same problem when I discovered my favorite drugstore foundation. My super easy solution was to buy one compact a shade above and one compact a shade below where my skin tone should be, and mix them together! Because it’s at drugstore pricing, it’s not costly to put this together and your foundation will last twice as long. This trick made it possible for me to use the foundation that worked the best for my skin.
- Everyone’s skin is a little bit different. If you find that a great foundation product doesn’t go on quite as smooth as you’d like, try adding a little water to your makeup sponge. This can help with a better application, but won’t add more oil to your skin.
I really love the look of big, full lashes! I don’t come by them naturally, though, so I had to find a great mascara product for my beauty routine. (Getting lash extensions is just way to expensive and time-consuming!)
With so many mascara options out there, it can seem impossible to find a product that works for you. But, once again, I found a great product that you can pick up at the drugstore and won’t blow your budget. L’Oreal Lash Paradise works wonders!
The brush does such a great job of separating my lashes and does a thick, even coat. I love that I don’t have to spend a lot to get such good coverage and fullness. It doesn’t clump and lasts all day. It’s such a great product for the price!
- Prime your lashes! This was a new concept for me, and I’m so glad I tried it! The L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Primer goes so well with the Lash Paradise mascara for an extra boost of length and fullness. It also helps the mascara adhere better to your lashes. I use the spoolie end of this eyebrow pencil, as well, to really separate and brush out my lashes.
Longer, Fuller Lashes
If you want an inexpensive way to get even bigger, better, more fabulous lashes, check out The $30 Eyelash Serum That Works! If you’re into long, full lashes (and, who isn’t?), you’ll know the cost of a lash growth serum that works is pretty high. I initially tried a product that was literally 5 times as expensive and I wasn’t happy with the results. Magnetic strips and lash extensions are also pretty costly. This $30 hack does not disappoint!
Smokey Eye Application
Who doesn’t love a smokey eye? I definitely do! I do my makeup pretty much the same way every day. It’s the perfect technique to bring out the color of my eyes. I’m no professional, but I’ve gotten really good at perfecting a smokey eye through lots of practice and lots of Youtube videos.
You can see my full, easy smokey eye tutorial, here. I also share all the products I use to achieve the look!
And if you’d like to see a video of me applying my eye makeup, check out my IGTV tutorial here!
Eye Makeup Tip:
- If you get a little stray makeup or mascara on your eyelids, an easy way to clean up your lid, is to use a q-tip and a little lotion. Lotion works much better than water to remove makeup and it also gives a little health boost to your skin.
I share my experience Getting My Brows Microbladed in this in-depth post! It has made such a difference in my beauty routine. I used to spend SO long trying to draw in my brows each day. I have literally cut my makeup application time in half by going the microblading route!
If you have thin brows, I’d really recommend looking into this for yourself. Some people are a little skeptical or hesitant about the process, so I’ll walk you through my before and after and everything you need to know, here!
UPDATE: Almost 3 years later, my microblading has faded significantly. I’m looking into getting my brows re-done this fall with an ombre powder fill to see if it lasts longer!
Beauty Tips For Hair
I love my long, thick hair, but it used to take such a time commitment to get it curled. Hair Coloring Hack
Did you know I’m not really a brunette! Most people don’t know that I color my hair, but my secret is out. And, it’s not really a secret, because I love sharing this coloring hack that extends the time between needing to touch up my roots! This trick gives me an extra 2 weeks in between color application which saves me time and money and improves the health of my hair with fewer treatments.
