Harry Potter Costumes

We actually had a different plan for our family costume this year, but when my husband and I got invited to a Harry Potter party and had to purchase costumes, it was an easy decision to base our family costume off the ones we had already bought!

My older two kids love Harry Potter and are reading the books so it was fun for them to bring the characters to life!

The best part about our costumes this year is that they were all purchased from Amazon! So it makes a great last minute costume idea if you’re in a pinch!

Other Harry Potter Costume Ideas

As a family of 6 we couldn’t be every character from Harry Potter, unfortunately, so here are some more options if you have a bigger family or someone wants to be a different character:

  1. Ron Weasley – Harry’s loyal best friend.
  2. Albus Dumbledore – The wise and powerful headmaster of Hogwarts.
  3. Severus Snape – The mysterious and brooding Potions Master.
  4. Lord Voldemort – The dark and feared antagonist.
  5. Draco Malfoy – The sneaky Slytherin rival.
  6. Bellatrix Lestrange – Voldemort’s loyal and unhinged Death Eater.
  7. Hagrid – The friendly half-giant and keeper of keys at Hogwarts.
  8. Sirius Black – Harry’s brave godfather.
  9. Neville Longbottom – The underestimated Gryffindor hero.
  10. Ginny Weasley – Ron’s bold and talented sister.
  11. Professor McGonagall – The strict but caring Transfiguration teacher.
  12. Dobby – The lovable and free-spirited house-elf.
  13. Moaning Myrtle – The ghost haunting the girls’ bathroom.
  14. Cedric Diggory – The noble and handsome Hufflepuff.
  15. Newt Scamander – The magical creatures expert (from the Fantastic Beasts series).
  16. Death Eaters – Voldemort’s masked followers.
  17. Tonks (Nymphadora Tonks) – The quirky, shape-shifting Auror.
  18. Mad-Eye Moody – The tough, battle-scarred Auror with a magical eye.
  19. Professor Trelawney – The eccentric Divination teacher.
  20. Lucius Malfoy – Draco’s sinister father, with his long blond hair and dark cloak.
  21. Viktor Krum – The famous Quidditch player and Durmstrang student.
  22. Gilderoy Lockhart – The vain, fame-seeking Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
  23. Remus Lupin – The kind werewolf and former Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
  24. Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) – The sneaky Death Eater and traitor.
  25. Cho Chang – Harry’s first crush and Ravenclaw Quidditch player.
  26. Dolores Umbridge – The pink-clad, cat-loving, and notoriously cruel Ministry official.
  27. Kingsley Shacklebolt – The calm and powerful Auror.
  28. Percy Weasley – The rule-following Weasley brother who works at the Ministry of Magic.
  29. Arthur Weasley – Ron’s father, obsessed with Muggle artifacts.
  30. Molly Weasley – The nurturing and fierce matriarch of the Weasley family.
  31. Griphook – The goblin who works at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
  32. Argus Filch – The grumpy caretaker of Hogwarts, often accompanied by his cat, Mrs. Norris.
  33. Nearly Headless Nick – The ghost of Gryffindor House with his half-attached head.

The list of options is pretty long with this theme since it spans 7 books and several movies. So you shouldn’t ever run out of characters!
