Boho rainbow birthday party decorations with ballooon garland, pampas grass, and food table.

I’ve been planning first birthday parties for eight years now, and since Aspen is our last baby, this is my last first birthday party.

But before you start feeling too sad, I’ve still got several other milestone birthdays that I can’t wait to plan (golden birthdays, 8, 12, and more)!

I toyed around with a few different party themes for Aspen, but always came back to the boho rainbow theme, since she was our rainbow baby.

I went all out for her party but still did several things on a budget. Keep scrolling to see pictures and links for everything I used.

Party Invitations

I designed the invitation myself in Canva and then sent digital invites to our family. I also used the same design to create the welcome sign that you’ll see in the pictures below.

Birthday Food

I took the easy route this time and served mostly store-bought food. The menu included:

  • Pinwheel sandwiches
  • Fruit kabobs
  • Salad
  • Chips
  • Cookies
  • Cupcakes

I didn’t want to go overboard with traditional rainbow-colored food, so I tried to stick to food that would match the neutral boho colors of the decor.

Birthday Decorations

The boho rainbow decorations were my favorite part of the party! I loved how the balloon arch turned out and the arched backdrops brought everything together. It’s exactly how I wanted it to turn out.

It was also easy to get the boho look because I already have lots of pampas grass arrangements around the house!

First Birthday Outfit

Aspen wore a beautiful tulle dress with a matching floral headband. I had to match her, of course, so I wore a tulle skirt and a matching headband.

Party Activities

I’ve thrown enough birthday parties now that I know the activities you plan are for entertaining the guests and not the birthday girl! We have a lot of nieces and nephews on my husband’s side so I got adorable canvas rainbows for the older cousins to paint.

And then we had the traditional cake smash and present opening. It was a lovely party and I’m glad my vision came to life to celebrate our last (and rainbow) baby.
